Local partners are important to us. That is why Freyr has teamed up with Tanken Arkitektur from Hemnes, to make the initial concept sketches for the first battery cell production facility in Norway.

Our Comparative advantages of 100 % Nordic clean green renewable energy and our drive for sustainable solutions are reflected in the architecture.

Freyr is building a state-of-the-art battery cell facility with 2+32 Gwh capacity in Mo i Rana. Construction-start for of the initial fast-track factory is Q2 of 2021 with the first Norwegian-made battery cells shipped to the market in 2022. Construction of the later giga-factory is set to commence in Q4 2022 with battery production from early 2024.

Freyr has built a team with extensive industrial and project management experience to deliver on our ambitious plan, including some of the smartest heads within the global battery cell manufacturing. As we grow, they will be joined by many more, reflecting Norway’s strong energy and process industry competencies. They will provide a solid foundation for stabile production uptime, which is critical for a competitive battery cell production.

Access to low-cost renewable energy, high industrial competence, arctic climate, political stability and also a good, supportive working environment, make for an unbeatable combination and production of the world’s most environmentally friendly battery cells.
