⚡️ FREYR Milestones & News
- FREYR BATTERY completed its first production trial of manufacturing chargeable unit cells with the Casting and Unit Cell Assembly machinery at the Customer Qualification Plant (CQP). On June 20th, FREYR’s teams, partners and vendors at the CQP successfully produced dozens of unit cells with the automated Casting Unit Cell Assembly Machine. Several of the unit cells showed promising characteristics and formation (first charging) was initiated on several produced cells. The cells are now being monitored in the CQP’s test center facilities. Read more.
- FREYR Battery announced new executive leadership to support strategic focus. Tom Einar Jensen returns to the role of CEO, Evan Calio joins the company as CFO, and Daniel Barcelo has been appointed Chair of the Board. Learn more.

- The New York Times: FREYR recently appeared in The New York Times after Tom Jensen, CEO, did an interview about the impact of the IRA on clean energy projects in the U.S. Read more here.
- 3Cs Battery Roundtable: ln collaboration with the Business Council for Sustainable Energy (BCSE), FREYR hosted a battery roundtable in Washington D.C. in June to bring together leaders from across government, industry, academia, and non-profits to discuss how America can build out a successful and sustainable domestic battery industry. Using the 3Cs framework, the group tackled issues ranging from policy to perception, safety to skills, and trade to timing. Read more about the key takeaways from the event here.
- The Smarter E Europe: Every June, one of the world’s largest exhibitions in renewable energy is held in München. The smarter E Europe brings together the four exhibitions of Intersolar Europe: ees Europe, Power2Drive Europe, and EM-Power Europe, including Korea's InterBattery, where CEO, Tom Einar Jensen held his presentation; "Batteries - The New Oil". More than 3,000 exhibitors and 100,000+ visitors attend. FREYR's Revenue Team experienced an increasing number of visits and many interesting conversations at this year's booth. Read more here.
- BloombergNEF Munich Summit: FREYR CEO Tom Einar Jensen recently participated in the “Financing Europe’s Battery Factories” at this year's BNEF Munich Summit. Together, he and Blue Solutions' Richard Bouveret, BNP Paribas' Fabien Levaillant, EIT InnoEnergy's Ilka Von Dalwick, and Bloomberg NEF's Andy Leach explored the convergence of industry, manufacturing, and energy. - Wood Mackenzie Report: According to a new report by Wood Mackenzie, we can expect another record-breaking year for energy storage in the U.S. Wood Mackenzie forecasts 45% growth in 2024 after 100% growth from 2022 to 2023. Learn more.
🌍 Employee and Community Spotlight
CELSA Group Relay: Together, we go far - and fast. FREYR's CQP team in Mo i Rana, Northern Norway, ran with hundreds of other companies in the local CELSA GROUP Relay. Congratulations to the team! Watch the team.
"Norwegian Giga Battery Factories" project: The "Norwegian Giga Battery Factories" (NorGiBatF) project, funded by Norges forskningsråd, recently visited FREYR's Customer Qualification Plant in Mo i Rana as a part of their workshop and sharings of recent findings. NorGiBatF is focused on enhancing the energy footprint of battery production and is spearheaded by NTNU with scientific collaborators from the Institute for Energy Technology, SINTEF Energy Research, and Technische Universität Braunschweig, along with industry partners like FREYR, Beyonder, NORSIRK, NORDIC MINING ASA, and Norsk Hydro. Future of Sustainabilty Event: How do you build a successful clean energy industry? That was the focus at the Georgia Chamber of Commerce’s Future of Sustainability event, where FREYR's Jason Peace sat down with Georgia Institute of Technology's Greg King, CEcD to discuss the current and future state of battery manufacturing. Peace explored the role of batteries in the larger energy transition, how to continue building out battery manufacturing capability in the U.S., and how to create a circular and sustainable supply chain.
University of West Georgia Tour: Building competency is critical for the long-term success of the American battery industry. The FREYR team met with the University of West Georgia for a tour of their labs and a deep conversation on curriculum and skills development in the U.S. battery sector.

- Arendalsuka (August 12-16): Norway’s national and local political parties, NGO's, universities, research institutions, and private companies gather for this annual meeting in Arendalsuka. FREYR will attend to discuss the larger picture and potential solutions or challenges in the climate space, as well as hold 1:1 meetings with politicians and other stakeholders. Read more here
- Oslo Battery Day (8/19-8/21): FREYR CEO Tom Einar Jensen and FREYR's VP of Sustainability Frode Hvattum, will both participate in OSLO Battery Day as they explore clean energy, the battery value chain, and sustainability. Read more here.
